Online Gaming Brings Increased Security Risks

The owner of network gaming center and cyber cafe has learned the hard way that when your business requires you to have an open, high-traffic network, hackers will notice. Since Andrew Prell opened GameCTRL in Louisville, Kentucky earlier this year, he's been visited in person by several hackers who attempted to install exploits and viruses on his system, and the network has been subject to numerous online hacking attempts.

He's had to seriously beef up security and stay constantly vigilant in order to keep providing Internet access to customers while protecting his biggest business assets—his network and his computers. So what's the lesson for at-home gamers? Make sure you have high-quality, frequently updated security software, because your hobby makes you a very attractive target for hackers and data thieves.
