Better Security Doesn't Have to Cost More
Based on a recent study, Trend Micro customers were able to improve malware detection and reduce infection while lowering their total cost of ownership. Sample findings include a 58% reduction in infected client devices, 20% fewer infections from accessing malicious websites, and a 25% reduction in infections from opening infected emails.

Mac OS X Targeted by DNS-Changing Trojan
A DNS-changing Trojan, disguised as MacCinema Installer, is targeting Macs by tricking users into downloading a QuickTime Player update. Users are prompted to download the update (i.e. malware) when trying to view online videos with certain IP addresses. If infected, the victim can be redirected to phishing sites or sites where other malware can be downloaded. The Trojan also enables the attacker to monitor the affected user's activities. Malicious Twitter Apps Rapidly Multiply
As of August 17th, it was two new malicious apps, and then by August 19th, a total of six new malware programs were spinning webs of criminal activity on Facebook. According to Trend Micro Security Expert Rik Ferguson these applications are linked to the fucabook phishing scam. When a victim logs in using the bogus fucabook page, they are prompted to enter their password again, "to use the full functionality of application name." Once downloaded, the malware spams all of your contacts, sending them to the fucabook phishing site.
